With your participation, our 8th annual Harbor Walk & Run and Metabolism Family Picnic on Sunday, June 13th, 2010 was one of our biggest ever!
Our Metabolism Family Picnic was a great opportunity to meet new families and children and catch up with old friends.
The Harbor Walk & Run is the major annual fundraising effort for our clinic. Funds raised by the METABOLITES TEAM directly support the clinic and its missions - medical care, patient education and advocacy.
With your support we were able to have the following accomplishments this past year:
1. Clinical Service. The Metabolism Service hired a third clinician, Dr. Reena Jethva, to help provide specialized care to a growing community of patients. Dr Garganta's Metabolic Laboratory continues to expand its service, working to improve lab diagnostic and monitoring options for our patients.
2. Metabolic Outreach Service. The Metabolic Outreach Service continues to thrive and currently occurs in six major teaching hospitals in the northeast. It remains the largest and most comprehensive teaching program about metabolic and mitochondrial diseases. It also encourages doctors to consider a career specializing in this underserved area of medicine.
3. Our Patient-As-Teacher Project provides patients and parents with the opportunity to speak to medical audiences at our outreach medical centers and Tufts medical school. We have over 60 patients/parents in our Speakers Bureau, representing over 25 metabolic disorders. The feedback has been universally positive. We plan this year to expand this program into the medical schools affiliated with our outreach hospitals in Boston, Vermont, New Hampshire, and New York. We sincerely thank our families for their participation, helping to make this program a success!!
We are very proud of all that we’ve accomplished and the families and patients whom we serve. However, we still have so much more to do and we need your help to continue to expand services and programs for our patients and families living with rare metabolic disorders and mitochondrial disorders.
